Elektra Music Group EMG) is a New York-based frontline label group launched at Warner Music Group (WMG) in October 2018.
Led by Mike Easterlin and Gregg Nadel, Elektra Music Group was partly established, according to a WMG announcement, to “‘bring more game-changing talent into the WMG family”.
That talent has since included Tones & I, whose global smash hit Dance Monkey went to No.1 in 20 countries and was signed by Elektra Music Group’s A&R exec Johnny Minardi.
WMG and EMG signed the recorded music rights for Tones and I around the world outside of Australasia.
Other artists signed to EMG include twenty one pilots, Sturgill Simpson, Brandi Carlile, Fitz and the Tantrums, Paramore, Slipknot, and Panic! At The Disco.
Structure
Elektra Music Group houses a number of record labels that previously operated as sub-imprints at Atlantic Records (also a Warner Music Group frontline concern).
Record labels operating as part of Elektra Music Group include Fueled By Ramen, Elektra, Roadrunner, Low Country Sound, and Black Cement Records.
Elektra Music Group aims to allow each of these brands to operate as “unique, independent label brands”.
Although EMG itself operates autonomously within the Warner structure, Easterlin and Nadel will continue to report into Atlantic Records Group Chairman & CEO, Craig Kallman, and Chairman & COO, Julie Greenwald.
When EMG launched, it had a dedicated staff of 60 employees, many of whom joined the company from previous roles within the Warner and Atlantic setup.Music Business Worldwide
